Register To Vote

REGISTRATION, ENROLLMENT, VOTING

To vote you must be a U. S. citizen, a resident of New York City for 30 days by Election Day, 18 years of age by Election Day and you must be registered.

REGISTRATION: New York State has Permanent Personal Registration. If you are not registered or if you have moved and have not reinstated your registration, you may register by mail or in person at your local Board of Elections. (see below for addresses and telephone numbers.)

To register by mail obtain forms at your local Board of Elections, where they are available in Spanish and Chinese as well as English. Call 212-VOTE-NYC (868-3692). Forms are also available at U.S. Post Offices, public libraries and Government offices.

PARTY ENROLLMENT: You may enroll in the party of your choice when you register. Party enrollment entitles you to vote in your party's primary elections. (You can still vote for any party's candidate in the general election.)

ABSENTEE VOTING: If you are a registered voter and will be out of New York City on Election Day or unable to go to the polls because of illness or physical disability, request an application for an Absentee Ballot. Upon receipt of the completed Application the Board of Elections will mail you an Absentee Ballot for you to complete. The Absentee Ballot must be mailed back 7 days before Election Day, or brought to the Board of Elections no later than the day before Election Day. You may pickup the application form at the addresses listed below.
